What is rhinoplasty and who is it suitable for? Everything you want to know about nose surgery is in this article – what you need to know about rhinoplasty to change the shape of your nose and breathe more easily.

What Is Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure performed to change the shape of the nose. It may be chosen for aesthetic reasons (being unhappy with the shape of the nose) as well as for functional problems (such as breathing difficulties or a crooked nose).

Why Is Rhinoplasty Performed?

• Aesthetic concerns: problems with the size, shape, tip or bridge of the nose

• Breathing difficulties: difficulty breathing caused by structural problems inside the nose

• Post-traumatic deformities: nasal fractures or deformities caused by an accident or a blow

• Congenital anomalies: deformities of the nose present from birth

Who Is Rhinoplasty For?

  • People whose physical development is complete: usually performed after the age of 16.
  • Healthy individuals: people without chronic illness or an active infection.
  • People with realistic expectations: people who approach surgery knowing that their current situation will be improved, rather than expecting perfection.

How Is Rhinoplasty Performed?

Rhinoplasty is performed under general anaesthesia. The length of the operation depends on the patient’s situation and the procedures required. During surgery, the nasal bone and cartilage are reshaped.

Recovery After Rhinoplasty

Swelling and bruising may appear in the first days after surgery; this usually resolves within a few weeks. Patients should take the medication prescribed by their doctor and follow certain precautions.

Benefits of Rhinoplasty

  • Aesthetic appearance: a more balanced and harmonious facial profile
  • Easier breathing: relief from congestion and breathing difficulties
  • Greater self-confidence: the new look helps people feel more confident.

Risks of Rhinoplasty

As with any operation, rhinoplasty carries certain risks, including infection, bleeding, anaesthesia-related complications, wound-healing problems and undesired results. However, these risks are very low when the operation is performed by an experienced surgeon.

Conclusion

Rhinoplasty is an effective way to solve both aesthetic and functional problems. Like any operation, however, it also carries risks. That is why it is important to have a detailed consultation with your surgeon before the operation and to clarify all your questions.
